Mary, the Star of the Sea
Imagine, you are lost at sea, a cargo ship with no modern instruments to guide you. This is the days of early travel by sea. The ship is not well constructed and the only guidance you have is the sun and the stars. Clouds are covering the sky. A storm is approaching fast. You must reach land, but you can't see land in the gloom. There appears to be no light to guide you that will pierce through the clouds, nor do you know where you should be trying to head, for as far as you know there is water in every direction. Plainly, you are lost. You neither know the way home nor know hope of survival in the oncoming storm. Suddenly, one star pierces the gloom, a star which is a sure directions to safety, for it is the Star of the Sea, the one which every good sailor recognizes. Also, in the light of this star, you can see ahead a cove that will protect your ship from the waves which would toss it out in the open, the waves which otherwise would be your certain death. You know where you are and you know where you must head. The cove ahead is Home and is called The Church. With the Star of the Sea to direct your boat which is constantly being tossed by the strong waves of the pending storm, you know you will find protection; You know you will be saved providing you head to and then remain within the cove.

Star of the Sea, in this age of confusion and despair, pray for us. Help us to distinguish between the deceits of the devil and the doctrine of your Son's Holy Church
